TEHRAN- Ahmad Moshiri, the managing director of Tehran Province Water Quality Controlling Department, says that Tehran’s tap water is one of the best in the world, noting that tap water is 70 percent better than bottled water.

“To compare Tehran’s water, which is being supplied from melting snows on Alborz Mountains, to the water used in Europe, it can be said that the potable water in Tehran is much better than the one in the green continent,” ISNA quoted Moshiri as saying on Friday.

Moshiri said since 250 years ago, waste waters, including that of ships and other industries, have been directed into the rivers in Europe and the same water has been filtrated and used for drinking.

He said that the quality of the water in Europe is good in terms of chemical standards but it is not drinkable and pleasant as it must be, and for this reason, water is distributed in bottles there.

Moshiri also said the use of bottled water in Iran has become prevalent since a few years ago though tap water is 70 percent better in terms of quality.

Insisting that there is no need of bottled water or home filtration system in Tehran, he said that old and corroded water supply pipes stand for the poor quality of the water.

Moshiri called on people to replace water pipes at homes if they find the quality of water not desirable.
